Bonsai Field Notes

This one's a satsuki azalea in root-over-rock style — variety unrecorded for now, something to track down later. Caught it in full bloom, which made it hard to resist a photo before doing anything else.

Started with a full repot: stripped out the old soil entirely and replaced it with fresh kanuma. Roots over rock like this need the drainage, and the old mix was overdue for a change.

While in there, removed a branch that was crossing the new defining branch — no reason to let the two fight for the same space going forward.

Wired the defining branch into its new position. The goal is more directionality in the silhouette and a wider spread for the flowers next bloom, rather than everything bunched at one angle.
